Alright
I got rookie drafts starting this weekend and I’m sure many do over the coming
weeks so here are my first set of ROOC rankings. I’ll try to have another set
around training camp and then a final look before the season starts.
A
few things to start ROOC is my attempt to quantify rookie talent adjusted for
opportunity, and draft slot. I got two sets of ROOC rankings (2QB and Standard)
and then my own two sets of rankings to go along with it. Now let’s go over
some components… Draft Grade (DrGr) – the grade I gave the
player during the draft. Pick Grade (PkGr) – Grade I gave the
pick, use the associated % in the formula. Pick – Pick used on
player in the draft, correlates pretty well with opportunity. Pick AV (PkAV)
– The approximate value of the draft pick. Now/EOS/Y3 – What I
predict the roster spot will be for that player / where on the depth chart they
currently are, Now/End of Season/ Year 3. ROOC2QB/ROOC –
Numerical representation of value based on those inputs. Let’s start off with
Superflex (2QB) ROOC ranks…

Tier
1 & 2 (1-4 | 5-7) –
You could talk me into Tier 1 being 3 tiers with Mendoza on his own, Tate &
Love together, and Tyson by himself but I think they all have similarities as
far as profile. They’re all top-10 selections with at least 1 question mark
about what is to come. Mendoza may not start right away, Tate is
going to be expected to be the WR1 and I’m not completely sure he’s best suited
for it, Love is on a bad team, and offense, much like Jeanty last year,
and Tyson is in what should be a relatively pass happy offense but as
the WR2 behind Olave. That said I think there is relative separation in between
them and the next tier at least by these inputs. In tier 2 you have a Lemon
presumably stepping in to help fill the gap left by Brown (not traded as of
now), and Concepcion who should step in as WR1 in Cleveland but major
questions about what the offense will be and who will be throwing him the ball.
In 2 QB/ superflex situations Simpson is a top-15 QB pick in a good situation.
It isn’t without risk but that’s gonna jump him up in a rankings like this.
Tier
3 & 4 (8-12 | 13-22) – After those top two tiers we
start to see the side effects of a relatively shallow draft… large tiers. Tier
3 is 5 players, and tier 4 is 10. Tier 3 is a solid mix of good and speculative…
Cooper is option 2 on what’s probably still a bad Jets offense whereas Boston
slots in as the immediate 2/3 in Cleveland which as with Concepcion, is a mess
of an offense that at least has talent. Bernard was a personal favorite
of mine from watching Bama the last couple of years lands in a Steelers offense
that doesn’t have much outside of Metcalf. Bell was a guy I liked but
Miami, and his late round 3 draft slot, limit his rating here but he’s got a
chance to be WR1 at the end of year 1. Last up is Price, a solid prospect
who was overdrafted but also seems to be in line to pick up a solid share of the
Seahawks offense that provided enough opportunity for Walker to win Super Bowl
MVP. Tier 4 sees the semi-head scratching Stribling pick who feels lost
in a mess of receivers in San Fran and like he has a potential to be a classic 49ers
overdraft. He and Sadiq, are the last of the top 50 picks at skill positions though.
Sadiq for his part looks to be the receiving option to Taylor’s more
traditional TE in the Jets offense. He sits this low merely because outside of
TE-premium and tiered PPR TEs just don’t have the positional value in dynasty. Washinton
Jr/Black/Coleman/Johnson are all buried in crowded or sorted starter
backfields with Coleman and Washington at least having cleaner paths to roles
relatively early. Hurst was a guy I really liked but ends up in the most
crowded receiving corps in the league, while Fields is a wild card for
me. The Giants have Nabers but not much else, so a guy like fields feels like a
very different body type but maybe a nice transition spot for that possession role
vacated by Robinson in the new look Giants offense. Lastly, we have the pair of
older QB prospects. Beck has the cleaner path to early starting opportunities,
provided Rodgers comes back to Pittsburgh, and while neither really profiles
out as high probability long-term starters they are both Day 2 QB prospects
surrounded by a large amount of uncertainty.
Tier
5 & 6 (23-40 | 41-48(71)) – To explain the (71)
in the header I chopped the list off at 48 but tier 6 runs through my 71st
ranked player (Terion Stewart). The point being there are a lot of lottery
tickets but not a lot of sure things in this class. In tier 5 my favorites are Bell
who should be in the running for a top 4 role in the Bills offense year 1, Stowers
who should be a move TE and potentially a slot player for the Eagles, and Sarratt
who I think can start in Baltimore year 1. Payton is a speculative play
if Hurts is really a problem in Philly and they have another bad year Payton
has a very interesting skill set that I would rather take a flyer on than many
with “higher floors” later. As for the glut of TEs in this tier, Klare landed
in a crowded TE room in LA, Raridon has a chance to replace the aging TEs in
New England, and Roush unfortunately becomes Michael Mayer immediately in
Chicago. Burks is the last guy to keep an eye on in this group as I
think Indy got an absolute steal and potential difference-maker near the end of
the draft. I’ll note just a couple guys in Tier 6, Thompson had his new
OC dancing shirtless during the draft, Allen drops into a Commanders RB
room that doesn’t have a difference maker, and Green is just an
interesting prospect to add to the mess of a Cleveland QB room. The last player
to mention is one who comes in at 59 and isn’t on the chart above. While I didn’t
like the pick of Caleb Douglas in Miami he was taken 75th overall
and deserves to be drafted in rookie drafts.
Standard
ROOC Rankings
The
biggest change will always be the QBs when comparing Mendoza (1 to 6), Simpson
(7 to 11), Allar (20 to 46), Beck (22 to 43), Payton (27
to 50), Nussmeier (36 to 53), Fagnano (47 to 66), and Green
(48 to 74). The last 4 are replaced by RB Jamal Haynes (44) in Cincinnati,
RB Jam Miller (45) in New England, RB Chip Treyanum (47) in New
York, and TE Justin Joly (48).

My
Rankings
This
table is sorted by my 2QB Rank and includes the two ranks from above and my
Standard Ranks (Stand. Rank). The biggest differences are running backs dropping
a bit propping up the 4th tier of WRs (Skyler Bell, Bryce Lance,
and Sarratt) and Stowers, Kayton Allen for his landing spot, Douglas
as noted above, and Zavion Thomas who, while I wasn’t overly high on him
pre-draft, went 89th overall to an offense in Chicago that I trust.
