Ohio State Scandal
There is a disturbing trend in this country with the scandals of the last couple years to chalk it up to college kids being college kids and that somehow makes them less guilty is absurd. Which brings us to the recent backlash to the backlash against Terrell Pryor, I agree that we have all gone a bit far with the hatred of Pryor he wasn't the only one involved in the Tat-5 and as the recent SI story suggests, Tressel likes to run his programs as air tight as a sieve so other incidents have happened. This puts the much of the blame on Tressel and the compliance department of Ohio State, however Pryor and other student-athletes still must take responsibility for their actions. Yes we're talking about young men in the 18-23 range in the majority of cases which lends itself to poor decisions and stupid mistakes but these young men also represent the university they play for and have seen what the repercussions for violations can surmount to in the USC, Alabama and Florida State cases. There is no doubt in my mind that the compliance department at OSU has failed the student-athletes and they must be punished but Pryor and the other athletes in these cases should not be given a free pass because it is their action that have brought the heat down upon the university.
