2024 NFL Draft - Tight Ends

 

Tight end is much more in line with QBs as far as distribution of talent. There’s one guy I’m sure on, a handful of intriguing guys who have a lot of variance and then some intriguing traits, and productive guys. A good thing to remember is that athleticism is the most translatable thing for tight ends year over year.

It’s Bowers and everyone else at the position for me, he moves so smoothly, gets open with ease, is great and physical after the catch and can block some. He has the size and aggression to become good enough to be moved in line from time to time but you’re not drafting Brock Bowers to not use him.

Johnson is 6’6”, 259 with wide receiver agility tests, power at the point of attack and great movement in space. Wiley’s testing doesn’t match up to what he looked like on the field and that’s good because his testing was a bit underwhelming, a bit more of move guy but has functional strength and good size. Sanders moves well and is a willing blocker in line, I’m a little lower than many on him as I just didn’t see the flashes I expected but he’s shown he can produce at a high level against good competition. Stover was an active participant in the run game for OSU, but when he got the ball, he was a fluid mover, with solid hands a good feel for route running. Sinnott is an odd one for me, his testing is right in line with the new standards but and he was productive at Kansas State, that said he wasn’t particularly sturdy when asked to block in line, not bad but kind of meh, he showed good strength coming downhill. I think he’ll be an H and move around a bit, I’m just sure I know exactly where he fits. Reiman is, to borrow a phrase from the offensive line cliches, a dancing bear. At 271 his size stands out but so does his agility testing at that size he’s a great blocker, and when giving the opportunities a good target who runs tough and punishment for defenders trying to tackle them. All would be higher up if he hadn’t missed the better part of three seasons, but when he was on the field he’s a dynamic athlete who wreaked havoc over the middle. McLachlan was very productive at Arizona actively and positively involved in the run game with enough burst to take advantage of space. Barner is a player I think immediately steps into a TE2 spot for someone as blocking tight end who can move. He holds up well blocking in-line, and is a bully at the second level.
