All picks are the originals as it would have looked heading into the draft. Trades made during the draft are not included. Trades made in previous years are.
1) Carolina Panthers: Actual Pick: Cam Newton QB, the Panthers have made a lot of mistakes over the past decade and in the past four to five years but Newton isn't one of them. The bigger hindrance for the Panthers were bad contracts and inability to put weapons around Newton. To me this isn't even a conundrum. New Pick: Cam Newton QB
2) Denver Broncos: Actual Pick: Von Miller LB, Miller was suspended for PEDs last season and has had some injury problems but he has been what he was suppose to be and still ranks seventh in Pro-Football-Reference career approximate value with those missed games. New Pick: Von Miller LB
3) Buffalo Bills: Actual Pick: Marcell Dareus DT, Dareus has panned out well, he's played in every game of his career and is one of the best young tackles in the game. I don't think Buffalo regrets it one New Pick: Marcel Dareus DT
4) Cincinnati Bengals: Actual Pick: A.J. Green WR, Same for the Bengals. Green has been as good as advertised and has played 11 more games than Julio Jones to this part in their careers. New Pick: A.J. Green WR
5) Arizona Cardinals: Actual Pick: Patrick Peterson CB, The first round of the 2011 draft was full of really good picks up top. This marks the fifth pick in a row that I kept the same and don't think many would argue too much about keeping this way. New Pick: Patrick Peterson CB,
6) Cleveland Browns: Actual Pick: Traded to ATL for Julio Jones WR, The Browns would do the Julio trade all over again because you don't turn down that loot for the sixth pick in the draft. Atlanta has seen those picks be sorely missed as there are now a handful of holes on the roster that first round picks would certainly have a higher hit rate on them. This is the first place I know will shock people. Dalton is good not great but the Browns problem over the past half decade has been a lack of consistency or any quality at QB and I think Dalton fills that and allows Cleveland to evolve faster. Also Dalton is a respectable fifth in approximate value from this draft but clearly the second fiddle to Newton. New Pick: Andy Dalton QB
7) San Francisco 49ers: Actual Pick: Aldon Smith DE/LB, Smith has been a very good pick fro the 49ers but off the field issues have derailed his career. Now for the scariest thought to come out of this, a defensive line of Justin Smith and J.J. Watt terrorizing backfields with that LB corps for the past four seasons. New Pick: J.J. Watt DE
8) Tennessee Titans: Actual Pick: Jake Locker QB, Titans missed on Locker who never developed but without a clear need at positions where defensive players would slot in I made another fun move with a QB. Kaepernick has had problems this seasons but a dynamic talent who would have lessoned the pain of the last couple years would have given Tennessee more of a shot than Locker or any other option did. New Pick: Colin Kaepernick QB
9) Dallas Cowboys: Actual Pick: Tyron Smith OT, Dallas doesn't hesitate to make the exact same pick again. New Pick: Tyron Smith OT
10) Washington Redskins: Actual Pick: Traded to JAX for Blaine Gabbert QB, Sherman probably lasted too long but Tennessee hasn't had trouble with Corners and the only other place to drop him would have been San Fran or Dallas and I like current or alternate options better. Washington has had troubles in the secondary for years and although Kerrigan has been very good, Sherman gives them a dimension they just haven't had since the tragic death of Sean Taylor. New Pick: Richard Sherman CB
11) Houston Texans: Actual Pick: J.J. Watt DE, Watt has been an absolute force and steal at number 11 but with him off the board we turn to another Big Ten product to come out in the 2011 draft. Kerrigan isn't an exact replacement for Watt but he should be good enough to be well for a middle between Watt and Reed. New Pick: Ryan Kerrigan DE
12) Minnesota Vikings: Actual Pick: Christian Ponder QB, Ponder was an understandable pick at the time, misguided, yes... but understandable. With Ponder not an option, Jones makes sense with their quest for a number one target. The Vikings have looked for a number one receiver since Moss & Carter but Jones could be the next. New Pick: Julio Jones WR
13) Detroit Lions: Actual Pick: Nick Fairley DT, The Lions selected Fairley in 2011 and it was understandable, a front four that could dominate like a Fairley/Suh one could cause nightmares for just about any offensive line. The Lions have had trouble along the offensive line, that they may have finally fixed but a franchise left tackle four seasons ago would have alleviated a lot of problems for the Lions offense. New Pick: Nate Solder OT
14) St. Louis Rams: Actual Pick: Robert Quinn DE, He wasn't as high up the PFR list as one might think but 45 sacks in his his career and 40 the last three years is a hard thing to find and replace. Add in Chris Long, Aaron Donald and company and you have one of the best front fours in the league and that is always helpful. Ask the Ravens. New Pick: Robert Quinn DE
15) Miami Dolphins: Actual Pick: Mike Pouncey C, Pouncey has been an above average center on a line that has produced nothing else. The last two years he has missed 2 and 4 games and he needs to reverse this trend but he's been a constant the last four years on the line. New Pick: Mike Pouncey C
16) Jacksonville Jaguars: Actual Pick: Traded to WAS who picked Ryan Kerrigan DE/LB, Kerrigan has been good for Washington and the Jags could use help on the defensive front but Orlando Franklin has been a consistent starter at two positions for Denver and played all but one game in his four year career and a rock like that would help any QB Jacksonville could develop. New Pick: Orlando Franklin OL
17) New England Patriots: Actual Pick: Nate Solder OT, Solder was a great pick and if he was still here would be the Pats pick again, but with him gone, the pats look to one of the few Saints picks that have actually panned out on defense the last couple of seasons. New Pick: Cameron Jordan DE
18) San Diego Chargers: Actual Pick: Corey Liuget DT, Liuget is in now way a bust for the Chargers who have seen him start every game the last three seasons and put up 18 sacks in four years from the defensive line, which is nice production. That being said, Muhammad Wilkerson is one of the best young d-linemen in the NFL right now a force for the Jets and would be an even better pick for the front three of the Chargers. New Pick: Muhammad Wilkerson DT
19) New York Giants: Actual Pick: Prince Amukamara CB, Amukamara has been alright when healthy but so far that just isn't an option for the former Cornhusker. The Giants haven't been able to fill their linebacking corps with quality talent and have even starter Chase Blackburn at times during the past couple of seasons. That's why I gave them K.J. Wright, the current Seahawk would at least add athleticism and productiont to a LB corps that is lackluster at best. New Pick: K.J. Wright OLB
20) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Actual Pick: Adrian Clayborn DT, Clayborn has played 32 games in his first and third season but just 4 in the other two years. I liked Clayborn coming out of college but the injuries have left him a shell of himself. Running backs in the first round is a no-no but with no offensive linemen of any worth left Murray makes sense for a team who hasn't found consistency at running back for the better part of a decade. New Pick: DeMarco Murray RB
21) Kansas City Chiefs: Actual Pick: Traded to CLE for Phil Tayor DT, Taylor has played in 44 games in four seasons for the Browns and despite a promising rookie season just haven't had the impact that one would hope. Justin Houston has produced 48.5 sacks and almost 200 tackles in his four years in Kansas City and would be a perfect pick here just 49 picks earlier than originally picked. New Pick: Justin Houston LB
22) Indianapolis Colts: Actual Pick: Anthony Castonzo OT, Castonzo was supposed to be the blind side protector of Indy's dreams and he's been good but not a great pick for a team that has continued to have line troubles. This one was a tricky one, Castonzo has been good enough to be re-picked and Smith has had off the field troubles but a talent like Aldon is too much to pass up here for the Colts. New Pick: Aldon Smith DE
23) Philadelphia Eagles: Actual Pick: Danny Watkins OG, Watkins flamed out and was Howard Mudd's "Greatest failure" as Philly's line coach. With Watkins out of the picture I went with Jabaal Sheard. Sheard came out of Pitt where he played 4-3 DE but plays OLB in the Cleveland 3-4. With 23 sacks so far in his career he's been a net positive but 2014 needs to be an aberration and not a trend for Sheard. New Pick: Jabaal Sheard DE/LB
24) New Orleans Saints: Actual Pick: Cameron Jordan DE, The Saints would love to get Jordan again but with him off the board seven picks earlier it's time to look to a position they addressed this season. Cobb would have filled in nicely as a slot threat for the Saints that they really didn't have until Cooks showed up this season. Imagine Brees to Cobb and the damage they could have done with perenial 4000 yard seasons. New Pick: Randall Cobb WR
25) Seattle Seahawks: Actual Pick: James Carpenter OT, Carpenter couldn't cut it outside for the Seahawks and has been kicked inside for an offensive line that hasn't performed up to snuff in Seattle. With all the wide receiving maneuvering the Seahawks have done a deep threat like Torrey Smith would have paired nicely with Baldwin and Tate and saves the team some face on the whole Harvin fiasco. New Pick: Torrey Smith WR
26) Baltimore Ravens: Actual Pick: Time expired on KC picked Jonathan Baldwin WR, The Ravens ended up with Jimmy Smith with the selection after this when they mishandled their pick clock. Smith showed promise early, but he hasn't been able to stay on the field and that's certainly a problem. Enter Akeem Ayers who may not be the best pick in this re-draft but hear me out. Ayers has 13 sacks in his four years that included a scheme transition, Ayers played well after the trade to New EnglandNew Pick: Akeem Ayers OLB
27) Atlanta Falcons: Actual Pick: Traded to CLE then KC became BAL when time expired Jimmy Smith CB, Atlanta traded this pick away to Cleveland as part of the Julio Jones trade. The biggest trouble with the Falcons since the trade is the lack of viable depth on the two lines and Jurrell Casey addresses that need. Casey has played in all but one game, played both 4-3 DT, 3-4 NT and 3-4 DE. Casey would be a nice piece for a D-line that doesn't have any punch to it. New Pick: Jurrell Casey DT
28) New England Patriots: Actual Pick: Traded to NO for Mark Ingram RB, The Patriots missed on Solder where they got him earlier and Castonzo isn't a perfect replacement but he's a good enough piece and player to fill at least one of the holes in the NE offensive line. New Pick: Anthony Castonzo OT
29) Chicago Bears: Actual Pick: Gabe Carimi OT, Carimi didn't pan out for the Bears and that was a bummer because he was a stud. Foster allows for a much smoother transition from the Brian Urlacher era and gives this defense much needed life in the middle of the defense to help mask some problems and to pair with Lance Briggs. New Pick: Mason Foster MLB
30) New York Jets: Actual Pick: Muhammad Wilkerson DT, This finishes the swapping of Wilkerson and Liuget and matches up with how they have played. Wilkerson, as noted above, has been a beast for the Rex Ryan Jets. Liuget has been good, averaging 4.5 sacks a year and increased his solo tackles from his rookie campaign. New Pick: Corey Liuget DT
31) Pittsburgh Steelers: Actual Pick: Cameron Heyward DT, Heyward has improved the last two seasons putting up 12.5 sacks and starting 29 games. It was tough sledding though early in his career. I was originally change this pick to Brooks reed but he wasn't as dynamic as I thought and hasn't shown growth like Heyward did. New Pick: Cameron Heyward, DT
32) Green Bay Packers: Actual Pick: Derek Sherrod OT, Sherrod has been unfortunate with his injury luck and hasn't produced for the Packers and that is unfortunate. This was a tough one because there is a muddle around the end of the first round. The new Packers pick is Nick Fairley. A high first round pick out of this draft but health and weight issues have limited. One of the biggest holes for the Packers has been the regression of Raji in the middle and a return to his natural NT for Fairley may just be the ticket for him. New Pick: Nick Fairley DT
