2020 NFL Draft - Draft Recaps - Day 2 Recap

Well round 2 and 3 were whirlwinds as always with picks and trades happening with increasing furor. It was generally a weird draft too, with less tactile information out there the picks seemed more reasonable and generally less reach-y than in recent years but that could just be my own lesser knowledge and information shining through.

Note: Pick 57 - Van Jefferson, WR, UF to the Rams was missing from the original. Grade: C

A good start to the round with Higgins, Pittman going as the 1st round casualties in a deep receiving class. And Swift is nice player and joins Kerryon in a weird backfield now in Detroit. I don’t hate hate the Dugger pick but I also would have waited ‘til a bit later and Winfield was still out there. Carolina and Houston added to front sevens with good linemen And Robert Hunt was our first player that I didn’t watch.

Taylor goes to Indy and unlike Swift Mack isn’t really a huge impediment to him making a contribution early on. Shenault gets dinged for injuries and I hate that Jacksonville got a player I really enjoy because they just can’t have nice things. I just wasn’t a Kmet guy, he got outperformed by the other ND tight end against Georgia and he’s a fine tight end in a bad class. Delpit, Winfield, and Davidson were just good solid picks in round 2. I just didn’t love Hamler during the process, but it’s not a bad pick. Lastly not ranked #2 with Darrell Taylor, who I don’t know much about.

Only one thing to address from this group is the Hurts pick. I like Hurts he was interesting at Alabama and worked into the Oklahoma offense much smoother than many of us suspecting. This pick makes little sense to me. I understand that you want some insurance because Wentz has a long line of injuries but in the second is really early and even if they have a Taysom Hill role in mind… the second round is really early.

Teams did really well at the end of the second, Cleveland adds athleticism to the Vikings linemen group, Mims could have gone 30 picks earlier and no one would have blinked an eye, Fulton adds to a nice young group in Nashville, Gay is a good if raw and immature, and Chinn helps Carolina continue to get younger on a defense that needs an overhaul. And then there’s the Packers and Dillon. Dillon is an alright prospect but a RB in round 2 who caught a handful of balls, and is the discount version of Derrick Henry. The Packers draft seems to signify a look to the future, which is fine, but a future in which they want to be LaFleur’s Titans offense and that’s just disappointing.
