These ranks are a bit
tougher for me than normal because I do rely on the testing numbers to separate
the wheat from the chaff and I lean on 3-cone and shuttle times as they are
solid indicators of success. I expect I’ll be pretty wrong on a number of the
linemen but it’s still fun to challenge ourselves.
Tackles
Name | Team |
Height, Weight | Role (Grade)
Mekhi Becton |
Louisville | 6’7 3/8”, 364 lbs. | S (7.5)
Jedrick Wills Jr. |
Alabama | 6’4 1/4”, 312 lbs. | S (7.4)
Becton is large, long
and nasty. He moves better than 364 and never looks like a pass rush bothers
him. I love to watch him and even though there are some lapses from time to
time he was the easiest eval here. Wills played on the right side at Alabama
but Tua is left-handed which makes him the blindside blocker. He was consistent
in both the passing and rushing game and shows good athleticism and technique.
Tristan Wirfs |
Iowa | 6’4 7/8”, 320 lbs. | S (7.2)
Austin Jackson |
USC | 6’4 7/8”, 322 lbs. | S (7.1)
Josh Jones | Houston
| 6’5”, 319 lbs. | S (7.1)
I don’t hate Wirfs
but I know I’m lower on him than many. He wasn’t bad but he overextended in
pass pro multiple times and didn’t dominate in the run game the way I hoped. I think
he’ll be very good but I just wanted to see a little bit more from him. Jackson
and Jones both showed the upside I want to see and flashed major talent. I
probably should be a little more conservative on the two of them but they both
showed great movement and solid technique.
Andrew Thomas |
Georgia | 6’5 1/8”, 315 lbs. | ES (6.9)
Ezra Cleveland |
Boise State | 6’6”, 311 lbs. | ES (6.8)
Thomas was good but he
waist-bends and overextends too often in the passing game and seemed far superior
in the run game than the pass. He’s a solid player and will be a starter for a
long time but I think his ceiling just doesn’t quite matchup with the five in
the starter tier for me. Cleveland is a bit of a project, but he showed his
athleticism on tape and the sky is the limit. He is the opposite of Thomas as he’s
considerably riskier but has tremendous upside.
