2017 NFL Draft: Day 2 Grades

Here we are the second round, let’s see how this went down.

1)     Green Bay Packers from Cleveland – Kevin King, CB, Washingotn – Grade: A
I like it. Long corner with well above average athleticism.

Trade:
Jacksonville: 34 – Grade: B
Seattle: 35 & 187 – Grade: B+
Pretty even, no qualms on either side.

2)     Jacksonville Jaguars from Seattle from San Francisco – Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama – Grade B-
Would have preferred Lamp here, but a solid pick none-the-less.

3)     Seattle Seahawks from Jacksonville – Malik McDowell, Int, Michigan State – Grade: A
Malik may end up being the best value in this draft. Good place to pick a player with what appears to be a wide array of uncertainties for his career.

Trade:
Arizona: 36 – Grade: F
Chicago: 45, 119, 197, and ’18 4th – Grade: A+
Great job getting great value here for Chicago after yesterday’s debacle. Arizona must have loved Budda to give up almost twice the value for the pick.

4)     Arizona Cardinals from Chicago – Budda Baker, S, Washington – Grade A-
Price to get him doesn’t matter here. Love Budda as a player he makes that defense even more multiple and interchangeable.

Trade:
Buffalo: 37 & 149 – Grade: B
Los Angeles (N): 44 & 91 – Grade: B
Another pretty even one. The Rams got almost the same value as Seattle up top.

5)     Buffalo Bills from Los Angeles (N) – Zay Jones, WR, East Carolina – Grade: B-
Big fan of Zay, like the value, but there were still players here that I would have preferred.

6)     San Diego Chargers - Forrest Lamp, G, Western Kentucky – Grade: A+
Love what the Chargers did for both Gordon and Rivers today.

7)     New York Jets – Marcus Maye, S, Florida – Grade: C+
Better DBs there for the Jets, and they now have three highly drafted young safeties for two spots.

8)     Carolina Panthers – Curtis Samuel, WR, Ohio State – Grade: A
Dave continues to help Cam.

Trade:
Minnesota: 41 – Grade: B-
Cincinnati: 48 & 128 – Grade: B+
This one leans Cincy’s way just a bit more than you’d like.

9)     Minnesota Vikings from Cincinnati– Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State – Grade: A
Good value here. Should be a nice compliment to Murray.

10)  New Orleans Saints – Marcus Williams, S, Utah – Grade: B+
Was one of my top five safeties and the Saints need a shit ton of help on D.

11)  Philadelphia Eagles - Sidney Jones, CB, Washington – Grade: B-
Not going to be factor this season, but if he returns fully healthy this could be an A+ when we look back at this draft.

12)  Los Angeles Rams from Buffalo – Gerald Everett, TE, South Alabama – Grade: C+
He was my 80% of Engram player, but that’s a value in the 3rd or 4th not the upper half of the second round.

13)  Chicago Bears from Arizona – Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland – Grade: C
Was never as high on Shaheen as everyone else, but he can block and is freaky athletic for 280 pounds.

14)  Indianapolis Colts – Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida – Grade: A
The Colts continue to bolster their weaknesses.

15)  Baltimore Ravens – Tyus Bowser, OLB, Houston – Grade: D+
I like Bowser, but there were a bunch of edges left on the board that I liked better.

16)  Cincinnati Bengals from Minnesota – Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma – Grade: C
I hope Mixon has changed. See what I wrote about Conley in round one for the grade explanation.

17)  Washington Redskins – Ryan Anderson, OLB, Alabama – Grade: C-
Anderson has short arms, health concerns, and didn’t dominate the way you’d like against lower competition.

18)  Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Justin Evans, S, Texas A&M – Grade: C+
Evans wasn’t a bad pick. (Paused, came back. That seemed about right.)

19)  Denver Broncos – DeMarcus Walker, Edge, Florida State – Grade: D+
Bad athlete, great production and behind a bunch of edge players still left on the board.

20)  Cleveland Browns from Tennessee – DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame – Grade: A
Love this pick and would have been alright with this when they drafted back up into the first round.

21)  Detroit Lions – Teez Tabor, CB, Florida – Grade: C+
Teez tested out poorly, but played like a beast. So A tape, D athletic testing C+ grade.

22)  Miami Dolphins – Raekwon Macmillan, OBLB, Ohio State – Grade: A
At worst the Dolphins got an extremely solid middle linebacker, at best they got a very good middle linebacker. In the third. Nice job.

23)  New York Giants – Dalvin Tomlinson, Int, Alabama – Grade: B
Tomlinson is a good solid player and my #13 interior lineman. Good pick, some better talent on the board in my opinion, but hardly a waste.

24)  Oakland Radiers – Obi Melifonwu, SS, UCONN – Grade: A
Talked about Obi playing different than you’d expect someone with his physicals to play the safety position. Louis Riddick mentioned just such a thing on the ESPN broadcast. But the kid can play the pass very well and plays physically enough.

25)  Houston Texans – Zach Cunningham, OBLB, Vanderbilt – Grade: A+
Everything I said about McMillan above plus 10%.

26)  Seattle Seahawks – Ethan Pocic, C, LSU – Grade: B-
The only reason this isn’t a C+ is because… “holy shit, holy shit, the Seahawks picked a lineman”

27)  Kansas City – Tanoh Kpassagnon, DL, Villanova – Grade: A
Great name, great kid, great Senior Bowl, very nice pick.

28)  Dallas Cowboys – Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Colorado – Grade: A+
Great value for the Cowboys who add athleticism to their defense again.

29)  Green Bay Packers – Josh Jones, S, NC State – Grade: C+
Not bad value on my board, but he was inconsistent at NC State and there are corners that I like better than Jones.

30)  Pittsburgh Steelers – JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC – Grade: C+
A handful of guys I like that can do similar thins to JuJu left on the board.

Trade:
Buffalo: 63 – Grade: C
Atlanta: 75, 149, 156 – Grade: A

31)  Buffalo Bills from Atlanta – Dion Dawkins, OL, Temple – Grade: D+
Moton is still there. Levin is still there. McDermott is still there.

32)  Carolina Panthers from New England – Taylor Moton, OT, Western Michigan – Grade: A+
Panthers help Cam again and get the best lineman left on my board.

As we look at the third round this is where I start to grade less purely on my board and more on fit. A little more off the cuff on the grades.

Round 3

33)  Cleveland Browns – Larry Ogunjobi, Int, Charlotte – Grade: A
Good small school player, give the Browns another athletic body in the front 7.

34)  San Francisco 49ers – Akhello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado – Grade: A

Trade:
New Orleans: 66 – Grade: B-
San Francisco: 229 & ’18 2nd – Grade: B+

35)  New Orleans Saints from San Francisco from Chicago – Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee – Grade: C+

36)  Jacksonville Jaguars – Dawuane Smoot, Edge, Illinois – Grade: C-

37)  Los Angeles Rams – Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington – Grade: D+
Good player. Many receivers I like better.

Trade:
Minnesota: 70 – Grade: B
New York (A): 79 & 160 – Grade: B-

38)  Minnesota from New York (A) – Pat Elflein, C, Ohio State               – Grade: B
39)  Los Angeles Chargers – Dan Feeney, G, Indiana – Grade: B

Trade:
Tennessee: 72 – Grade: A
New England: 83 & 124 – Grade: C

40)  Tennessee Titan from New England from Carolina – Taywan Taylor, WR, WKU – Grade: A+

41)  Cincinnati Bengals – Jordan Willis, Edge, Kansas State – Grade: A+

42)  Baltimore Ravens from Philadelphia – Chris Wormley, Int, Michigan – Grade: A+

43)  Atlanta Falcons from Buffalo – Duke Riley, OBLB, LSU – Grade: A

44)  New Orleans Saints – Alex Anzalone, OBLB, Florida – Grade: C+

Trades:
Carolina: 77
Arizona: 98 & 115

45)  Carolina Panthers from Arizona – Daeshon Hall, Edge, Texas A&M – Grade: B

46)  Baltimore Ravens – Tim Williams, Edge, Alabama – Grade: B+

47)  New York Jets from Minnesota – ArDarius Stewart, WR, Alabama – Grade: B+

48)  Indianapolis Colts – Tarrel Basham, Edge, Ohio – Grade: A-

49)  Washington Redskins – Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA – Grade: A+

50)  Denver Broncos – Carlos Henderson, WR, Louisiana Tech – Grade: A+

51)  New England Patriots from Tennessee – Derek Rivers, Edge, Youngstown State – Grade: A+
Hate you Bill. Love you Bill.

52)  Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State – Grade: B+

Trade:
New England Patriots: 85
Detroit: 96 & 144

53)  New England Patriots from Detroit – Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy – Grade: C+

Trade:
Kansas City: 86
Minnesota: 104, 132, and 245

54)  Kansas City from Minnesota from Miami – Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo – Grade: A+
Love this kid.

55)  New York Giants – Davis Webb, QB, California – Grade: D
Nassib 2.0?

56)  Oakland Raiders – Eddie Vanderdoss, Int, UCLA – Grade: A
Loves this kid. When healthy a very good player.

57)  Houston Texans – D’Onta Foreman, RB, Texas – Grade: B
Third RB left on my board, but if I’m taking a flyer on a freaky athlete I would have taken McNichols or Aaron Jones.

58)  Seattle Seahawks – Shaquill Griffin, CB, UCF – Grade: A+
Great kid, great story, very good football player.

59)  Los Angeles Rams from Kansas City from Buffalo – John Johnson, S, Boston College – Grade: A
60)  Dallas Cowboys – Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan – Grade: C
Same situation with Conley.

61)  Green Bay Packers – Montravius Adams, Int, Auburn – Grade: B-
Like the value, but for a guy who’s going to play nose for the Pack his explosion numbers weren’t great.

62)  Pittsburgh Steelers – Cameron Sutton, CB, Tennessee – Grade: B+

63)  Seattle Seahawks from Atlanta – Delano Hill, S, Michigan – Grade: B-
I’ll trust the brain trust in Seattle

64)  Detroit Lions from New England – Kenny Galloday, WR, Northern Illinois – Grade: D+
A player who I thought about moving up my board, but even if I’d bumped him up there are big bodied receivers I’d have taken instead.

65)  Miami Dolphins – Cordrea Tankersly, CB, Clemson – Grade: C+
Solid corner. Bunch of guys at the position higher.

66)  Arizona Cardinals from Carolina – Chad Williams, WR, Grambling – Grade: B-
What can you say other than, Arians and Keim have a type.

67)  Philadelphia Eagles from Baltimore – Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia – Grade: A
Real productive kid. Had a couple guys above him at the same position, but he was rated 54 on my board.

68)  Tennessee Titans from Los Angeles (N) – Jonnu Smith, TE, FIU – Grade: A-
Athletic TE, needs to continue to grow, but he’ll learn in TEN and is another weapon for Mariota.

69)  Denver Broncos – Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar (TX) – Grade: B+
About where I had him. I got guys ahead of him, but nothing wrong with the pick.

70)  Seattle Seahawks – Nazair Jones, Int, North Carolina – Grade: C+
Good story, fine athlete, nothing to hate, but I had better players available.

71)  New Orleans Saints from Cleveland from New England – Trey Hendrickson, Edge, FAU – Grade: A
Athletic as all get out. Needs to be more consistent with his technique and production.

Trades:
San Francisco: 104
Minnesota: 109 & 219

72)  San Francisco from Minnesota from Kansas City – C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa – Grade: F
I don’t see it. The only thing he has is prototype size.

73)  Pittsburgh Steelers – James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh – Grade: A+
Hey what can I say. Hometown kid, beats cancer, gets picked in the third round.

74)  Seattle Seahawks – Amara Darboh, WR, Michigan – Grade: B+
Good player, great story. No problem with the pick.

Trades:
Tampa Bay: 107
New York (A):  125 & 204

75)  Tampa Bay Buccaneers from New York (A) – Kendall Beckwith, OBLB, LSU – Grade: A+
If not for the injury he goes before Riley earlier in the day at worst. Great risk reward here.

Alright did a better job in the second half of the third round of taking notes. It’s almost 2 in the morning and I don’t have much to addon a lot of these picks or trades. Sorry to disappoint
