Alright,
going to break up these rounds into thirds. In the first third of the round the
Raiders were active in moving down with varied levels of success before final
taking Tayvon Mullen a corner for Clemson who was a ways down my list. The top
of the second round also saw a huge run of OTs and CBs with four of each going
through the first 12 picks. My favorite pick in this was Jawaan Taylor, even if
the knees aren’t great he’s well worth the cost at the top of the 2nd
round.

23)
Houston
Texans – Max Scharping, OT, Northern Illinois – Grade: B+
Three
more trades in this section of the round with Miami acquiring the pick that
would turn into the key piece of the Josh Rosen. The run on corners continues while
the run on OT is starting to peter out as the tackles available aren’t quite as
good as those taken in the early part of the round. A handful of really nice
picks here but Greedy was the best; Yes, he needs to show more interest at
tackling but if the receiver doesn’t have get a chance to make the catch he can’t
exploit the lack of tackling for YAC.
Trade:
KC gets
56 Grade: C+
LAR gets
61 & 167 Grade: C+
24)
Kansas
City Chiefs f/LAR f/NE f/CHI – Micole Hardiman, WR,

29)
Los
Angeles Rams f/KC – Taylor Rapp, S, Washington – Grade: A+
Trade:
ARI gets
62 Grade: F
MIA gets
Josh Rosen & ’20 5th
Grade: A
Arizona
gets an F because not trading Rosen pre-draft was an asinine decision. Miami
for its part gets a first round QB who gets a fresh start.
30)
Arizona
Cardinals f/MIA f/NO – Andy Isabella, WR, UMASS – Grade: A-
31)
Kansas
City Chiefs f/LAR – Juan Thornhill, S, Virginia – Grade: A+
Trade:
SEA gets
64 Grade: C-
NE gets
77 & 118 Grade: B
32)
Seattle
Seahawks f/NE – DK Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss – Grade: A+
Three
more trades at the end of the round. I wrote up the grades on the Rosen trade on
its own, but KC and the Rams made a pretty even trade and NE does what it does
best on day two (make high value trades). For me the best pick of this set is
Parris Campbell. Thornhill, Metcalf, and Rapp were all splendid values, but
Campbell has the upside and skill set to make a really difference and pairing
him with Hilton and Luck is going to be so much fun.

– Grade: A+
39)
Denver
Broncos – Dra’Mont Jones, INT, Ohio State – Grade: A-
40)
Cincinnati
Bengals – Germaine Pratt, OBLB, NC State – Grade: A
Alright
there was a natural break after the first 8 and already another trade. This time
it’s the Rams being aggressive and jumping up to pick a RB but giving up 2 3rds
to do it. Is this depth building or is the Gurley health situation that much of
a question mark? Whichever it is Henderson was my favorite pick of this set.
Trade:
CHI gets
73 & 205 Grade: D+

54)
Houston

55)
New
England Patriots f/CHI – Damien Harris, RB, Alabama – Grade: B
A
bigger set here with a pair of trades the second of which starts a run of trades
by the Vikings that’s pretty epic. Within these picks we see a RB run with
three of them going. My favorite pick however for the second blurb in a row is
a Ohio State WR. In this case that receiver is Terry McLaurin who provides the
Redskins with athleticism to burn and room for growth that should see him get
much better as a route runner.
Trade:
SEA

Trades,
trades the magical fruit… Well five more in the last 14 picks meant the action
was coming hot and heavy as day 2 came to an end. Minnesota traded down three
times in 5 picks and turned 92 & 159 into 102, 191, 193, & 217. I’ll
claim a tie for my favorite picks of this grouping between the Baltimore pick
of Miles Boykin who I had as WR2 and Minnesota’s pick of Mattison. Boykin and
Hollywood Brown give Lamar a very nice pair of young bookends. Mattison is the perfect
replacement for Latavius Murray as he a more well rounded back and should be a
nice compliment to Dalvin Cook when he’s healthy and a stable fill-in if he
misses more time.
Overall,
it was a fun hectic day 2 and should be a fun and hectic day three.
