I
may update this one more time towards the end of the week although with no UDFAs
cracking overly high in the post-draft edition it will most like have more
impact for future iterations and comparisons on how the class is shaping out heading
into the class’s rookie season.
A
few things to start ROOC is my attempt to quantify rookie talent adjusted for
opportunity, and draft slot. I got two sets of ROOC rankings (2QB and Standard)
and then my own two sets of rankings to go along with it. Now let’s go over
some components… Draft Grade (DrGr) – the grade I gave the
player during the draft. Pick Grade (PkGr) – Grade I gave the
pick, use the associated % in the formula. Pick – Pick used on
player in the draft, correlates pretty well with opportunity. Pick AV (PkAV)
– The approximate value of the draft pick. Now/EOS/Y3 – What I
predict the roster spot will be for that player / where on the depth chart they
currently are, Now/End of Season/ Year 3. ROOC2QB/ROOC –
Numerical representation of value based on those inputs. Let’s start off with
Superflex (2QB) ROOC ranks…

Tier
1 & 2 (1-2 | 3-4)
– A smaller top two tiers than last year with only 4 players included, and
considering the class it’s not a huge surprise. Ward was the only highly
drafted QB, and only 1 of 2 in the first round he sits atop the 2QB ROOC
rankings by a considerable margin. Hunter slots into tier 1 because the numbers
lack some context around position and usage. Joining him in tier 2 are the top
WR and RB in the class. Interestingly the formula favors McMillan to Jeanty
because of positional modifiers and my draft grade. I have them flipped personally
but think this is a clear top-3 in my mind.
Tier
3 & 4 (5-8 | 9-12) – Tier 3 & 4 see 3WR/RBs
and a QB in both. From tier 3 Golden and Hampton land in great
places with opportunities available. The Packers have roughly 3 dozen WRs under
26 but Watson is hurt for a significant portion of the season, Reed is a slot
dynamo, and I think the rest of the corps are solid 3s but nothing special so if
he acclimates fast, he has a chance to have a standout rookie performance. Hampton
goes to run first Harbaugh offense with a good offensive line, a solid pass
game to take pressure off, and his only real competition is Najee Harris who
could never put distance between him and Warren in Pittsburgh. Egbuka
has more long-term value than short-term which always brings variance in but he’s
a Godwin-esque player who shouldn’t have to worry about utilization in the Bucs
offense. Dart is the last player in tier 3, and rightfully so he was the
only other QB drafted in the first round, and while the Giants have said they’re
starting Wilson I don’t believe that last the year and probably not even to the
midway point. Judkins has a chance to fill in the Chubb role with a better
athletic ability to be involved in the pass game although I think the Sampson
pick hinders him a little bit. Henderson actually lands where I think he’ll
be in line for a relatively perfect role for him as Stevenson can handle quite
a workload and Henderson is a sneaky good pass blocker which should help get him
on the field for passing downs. Burden is supremely talented but has both
inconsistently applied himself and been inconsistently applied. If anyone can
get a lot out of him it’s Ben Johnson and they spent quite a bit of draft capital
on him. Lastly is Shough, who went top-40, is behind Carr who is looking
more and more likely to be extremely limited or out this season and battling
with Rattler. I don’t personally like him enough to take him round 1 but I don’t
think he should slide significantly far into round 2 considering the draft
capital used on him.
Tier
5 & 6 (13-34 | 35-48) – The biggest thing for me
is the positional drop that hit Warren, Loveland, and Tayor. Year 1 is
notoriously tough on TEs outside of a few notable talented guys, and I think all
three warrant to be much higher than they are here at 17, 19, and 25
respectively. A couple notable draft capital guys before we rapid-fire these
two large tiers. Higgins went 34 to the Texans who have holes from free
agency and injury. Tre Harris went 55 to the Chargers who have
Ladd and Johnston but not a whole lot else. Circling back to Arroyo and Fannin
who also went top-70 and are incredibly athletic both fit inside the top-36 but
in my opinion a bit too far down when you’re seeing other position players
taken pick 100 or later. Harvey and Johnson go to teams with
relatively limited RB depth charts, Bech and Williams as well but
to Rams and Pats rooms with opportunities available in the pass game. Milroe
and Gabriel go to teams with terrible but cluttered QB rooms, Skattebo/Tuten/Sampson/Etienne
are interesting RB with Tuten and Etienne going to teams with question marks
that they could certainly fill for bigger roles than may be expected right
away. Noel is a really intriguing receiver to good/interesting landing
spot, James was a draft favorite of mine but lacks top end speed, Marks/TeSlaa/Hunter
weren’t particularly standout but were taken with intriguing draft capital, and
Howard goes to a Pittsburgh team with… Rodgers…. Probably, and not a
whole lot else. In tier 4, is Giddens finally the JT backup we’ve been
waiting for? Does Neal just continue to produce like at Kansas? Ayomanor
is gonna be on the field because of his motor and blocking but can he show the
upside he showed against Colorado in ’23? Can Royals be another short
area weapon for the Chiefs and help rebuild their offensive speed? Will Brooks
or Martinez steal more carries than expected? Will Ewers, Leonard,
or McCord challenge established quarterbacks? Challenge and established
doing a lot in that question for different starters. And will Lane, Felton,
or Smith take sub-4.4 speed to starting or super-sub roles?
Standard
ROOC Rankings
Obviously,
the biggest differences here is the ranking of quarter backs:
Ward (1 to 7), Dart (8 to 29), Shough (12 to 31), Milroe
(19 to 44), Gabriel (21 to 47)
Howard (31 to 49), Sanders (33 to 56), Ewers (36 to 59), Leonard
(44 to 63), and McCord (47 to 64)
The
later five are replace by Terrance Ferguson (51 to 43) a player that I
wasn’t overly fond of at his draft position but has a potentially great landing
spot with the Rams and good draft capital, Jaydon Blue (52 to 43) who
with the Cowboys running back situation will probably be a pretty solid rookie
sleeper for many out there, KeAndre Lambert-Smith (52 to 45) another
athletic WR who could has the ability to energize the Chargers passing game, Kyle
Monangai (54 to 46) a later round player who is added to a Bears backfield
that hasn’t been as electric as expected, and Pat Bryant (56 to 48) a
big rangy receiver who gets mixed in to a Broncos receiving corps with plenty
of question and talent.

My
Rankings
I
have the table sorted for my 2QB ranks and tiers. Tiers are color coded and the
biggest difference are the TEs being bumped up for me and a couple of low-end
quarterbacks left out of the top 48.
